Losing a pet can be devastating. For many pet owners, pets are family members and the loss can seem overwhelming. You can expect them to go through the same stages of coping as when we experience a human loss. These may include guilt, denial, anger and depression. Support from friends and family may be expressed in many ways including a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on.
It is often a much appreciated gesture to send flowers, a gift basket or a donation to a local animal shelter or rescue group in honor of the deceased pet.
