Support a Friend |
Losing a pet can be devastating. For loving pet owners, pets are family members and the loss can seem overwhelming. You can expect them to go through the same stages of coping as when we experience a human loss. These may include guilt, denial, anger and depression. Support from friends and family may be expressed in many ways including a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. Creating a memory box of the pet’s items, such as a dog collar, favorite toy, photos, etc. can help through a difficult loss. Offering to help organize a memorial service can provide an opportunity for those close to the pet to share stories and openly express emotions. It is often a much appreciated gesture to send flowers, a sympathy card, or a donation to a local animal shelter or rescue group in honor of the deceased pet. For a local provider who is accustomed to providing for pet remembrances, please contact your local IAOPCC Member. |

PET OWNERS PLEASE NOTE: Former members are not entitled to use the IAOPCC membership logo. Please be sure to check our Membership Directory and verify that the Cemetery/Crematory is in fact a current member in good standing and not just borrowing the logo, or you may contact the Home Office directly at 1-800-952-5541 or info@iaopc.com .
